Learn to Skydive

Jumptown's Student Skydiving Program

Want to Learn How to Skydive?

Many first-time skydivers come to our dropzone for a one-off jump only to find that after experiencing one of life’s most incredible adventures, they can’t get enough!

If you wish to take your love of skydiving beyond the tandem skydive and experience the pure adrenaline of solo flight, we’re here to help.

Jumptown offers skydiving lessons, so you too can become a certified skydiver through our AFF (Accelerated Freefall) training program!

What's Accelerated Freefall (AFF)?

AFF is an eight-jump progression program designed to develop skill sets that transform the novice to a safe and independent solo skydiver. After the completion of your AFF training, you will need to complete various coach jumps to develop group skydiving skills. To achieve your A-license, you need a minimum of 25 jumps (including your AFF and coach jumps). Refer to our helpful graphic below for an explanation (tap to enlarge):

Take advantage of our AFF Bundle!

If you’re committed to getting your license, we offer a special AFF Bundle to help you save some money along the way! $1,899 will get you your First Jump Course (FJC) as well as your first eight skydives. This allows for a savings of almost $200 compared to other drop zones’ offerings!

If you’d prefer to pay as you go, that’s fine too! You can start small and get your FJC and your first AFF jump for $430. Simply select “FJC + Jump 1” in the experience selection menu on the booking page. If you have any questions, our staff is always happy to help you out!

Whether you purchase the bundle or pay as you go, there is a lot of information involved in the AFF program, and it is essential to keep it fresh in your mind as you move toward your A-license. Bunk rooms are available if you would like to hang out with us while you power through the AFF program! Doing so also provides a more intimate learning environment based on discussion and information sharing. Simply being at the drop zone will help you get the hang of the sport as a whole, its safety concepts, the Jumptown way, and more!

If you’d like to book the bundle or your FJC and first jump, please book online here. Slots are very limited, so act fast!

What's covered in the AFF program?

The program begins in the training room Thursday at 8:00 am sharp with the First Jump Course (FJC).

This is the main theory portion of the program covering topics including:

  • Motivation
  • Risk management
  • Gear inspections
  • Aircraft safety
  • Freefall techniques
  • Canopy control
  • Landing patterns
  • Emergency responses

This class will take seven-eight hours including breaks and will end with a group recap/review of all material.

Then it’s time to team up with your instructors and make the first skydive of the course: AFF CAT-A.

As the program progresses, you will participate in all jump planning, including equipment inspections, exit and freefall rehearsals, and, most importantly, preparing your flight plan using wind speed and direction forecasts to calculate exit and opening points, intended canopy flight path, and a landing pattern.

Each and every skydive is a pre-planned sequence of events. Nothing is left to chance.

Remember: Skydiving is weather dependent. If the weather cooperates and you remain focused, our aim is for AFF students to complete the course and jump solo.

For those wanting to avoid the traffic or to enjoy sitting by the campfire, Jumptown has a comfortable bunkhouse, hot showers, and a common kitchen on site to make for a comfortable stay.

Stay as many nights as you want! Just be sure to let manifest know if you need accommodation when you book your AFF Program slot. Please bring your own bedding.

What's Included

  • Ground school
  • 8 instructor-led jumps
  • Free accommodation in our bunkhouse or campground for the duration of the course (please bring your own bedding)

Courses start every Thursday during the season.

First Jump Course & Category A Jump

Skydiving lessons begin with an intensive ground school starting at 8 am Thursday morning. Lasting for eight to ten hours, first-time jumpers are trained on proper operation of the parachute equipment, correct freefall body position, emergency procedures, and how to fly and land the parachute. The class is followed by your first jump (weather and time permitting) with two instructors who fly alongside giving feedback to correct body position and assisting where needed.

Category B and C1 Jumps

Training continues adding additional skill sets for each jump. Jumps B and C1 are made with two instructors.

Category C2, D1, D2, E1, and E2 Jumps

Jumps C2-E1 are led by a single instructor who will be adding to your skill sets and preparing you to make your Category E2 jump as a solo skydiver!
